Fifty years ago, on August 26, 1962 was when the most consistent woman in my life was born. Hallelujah that day came. If not then you know what would have happened.
Last year I promised her an extraordinary celebration on her 50th birthday. She dissented, or maybe that's what I thought. She mentioned that she would just like to keep it simple and that she didn't want any party, just an intimate lunch or dinner with her family. All the while that was the plan. But at the last minute, she changed her mind. There would again be a party. Although still simple, just merienda with family and few friends.
Be ready. Photo bomb's coming up.
We woke up early that day. While Muder heard the mass and thanked the Lord for all the 50 years of her existence, all of us stayed home and started to work after a light breakfast. Jerico was there to help.
Everything was ordered, purchased and prepared at the last minute. We weren't able to pre-order a cake. So ito na lang, which was just fine.
Even the balloons were just ordered in the morning of that day then picked up in the afternoon. Good thing Jerico was there as our go-to guy - go to the market, go to the grocery, go here and there. Haha! "Go-to Guy" He couldn't complain...at all. I sent Vian and him to order the balloons that morning.
Vian: Ate, mamaya na ang sukli mo.
Me: Sana pinasulatan mo 'yung balloons. O hindi na?
Vian: Oo, may pinalagay ako dun.
Me: Ano?
Vian: Happy 50th birthday Nanay. We will miss you. (Then laughed out loud)
Me: Gago! (Then I couldn't help laughing too)
Vian: Hindi. Happy 50th birthday Nanay. We love you.
Ah okay. We're really like that in the house so no judging 'kay? I told that story to Muder. Even she was laughing.
Muder: Tang'nang mga 'yan (Referring to Vian and my brother Jayvee). Kagabi pa ako pinapatay.
She told me a story about Vian and Jayvee's conversation kasi the night before. Pero nakalimutan ko na. At pinagku-kwento pa niya sa mga bisita niya that story and this. 'Yan ang nanay namin, tuwang tuwa 'pag nilalapastangan naming magkakapatid. Haha!
Sobrang napagod kami. But at the end, it was all worth the pagod. Para kay Muder naman e. Ito, kids party lang ang peg.

We had this very popular ice cream in Nueva Ecija, Puno's Ice Cream, for dessert among others (Wow, parang andaming dessert lang. We also had limited amount of leche flan and choco mousse kasi) Totoo nga ang press release ni Vian. Ansarap nito! More on this on a separate post.

Can you see my busy Fuder at the top right corner of this photo above? As usual, he was busy entertaining his own set of guests right there. Alam na 'yan. So aside from the food photos above, he also prepared pinapaitan and tokwa't baboy, plus they had a bit of adobong native chicken that Jerico prepared. My Fuder's cooking is the best, I tell ya.
More than the celebration itself, it was the preparation (or perhaps the lack of it) with the whole family and without any helper around was the most enjoyable. Ooops, minus the brother because he was too busy doing God-knows-what with his girlfriend in God-knows-where, who came home with her only after most visitors had left. Buti na lang may dala silang two more cake rolls and a bottle of wine. Sige, pwede na rin.
Again, happy 50th birthday Muder. Be fifty and fabulous. As people say, age is just a number. So don't panic. And look at the bright side, you're almost a senior citizen. Malapit ka na magka-discount sa Jollibee at malibre sa sine. ^_^ Enjoy life. Life's short. And now that you're fifty, it's even shorter. ^_^
Ciao! ♥
Happy Birthday kay Mudrax! Ang bongga ng celebration kahit madalian ang prep, ang dami food!!
